ABOUT THE LIBRARY

The Leo Falicov Library, one of four libraries of the Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica (CNEA) of Argentina, is a special library that provides services and resources to support the learning, teaching and research needs of the Centro Atómico Bariloche and Instituto Balseiro (CAB-IB).
In 1996 the library was named in honor of Leo Falicov, one of the Institute’s first graduates, who was also renowned for his contributions to physics.
The collection includes materials, covering the areas of physics, nuclear engineering, materials science, computer science and related areas. The emphasis of the collection is on physics.
As of the year 2000 the collection includes the library of the Fundación Bariloche, a non profit private organization, dedicated to research, postgraduate training and technical assistance in energy economics, energy policy, environment economics, climate change, philosophy of science and quality of life.
The library holds over 24,000 volumes, 950 journal titles, of which 36 are current paper subscriptions. There is also sitewide access to all of CNEA’s current subscriptions. Moreover, through the Electronic Library of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovative Production (MINCyT) of Argentina. patrons have digital access to 31,031 journals, 24,595 ebooks, 3,164 standards, 20,191 conferences and 23,475 theses.
In 2005 the IB Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations was created, the contents of which was transferred in 2010 to the Institutional Digital Repository (RICABIB, according to its initials in Spanish), currently offering full text access to over 600 theses, as well as other research output.
The library houses the Instituto Balseiro and Gaviola Archive, which is in the process of being reorganized according to standard archive procedures. Documents are stored in compact shelving.
